Delaware Water Gap Bridge on Interstate 80, Hardwick Township, NJ

Frozen Delaware River

The Delaware River looking solid on January 14th, 2018. A very cold winter, the recent cold saw a thaw on Thursday with temperatures rising up to 64 degrees before plummeting back down below freezing. Not sure if it would be safe to walk on and as a general rule I would suggest never to walk on frozen water in NJ just as a matter of course, but I couldn't help but to think if it had been this cold during the American Revolution if perhaps Washington could've walked across the Delaware with cannons?

Putting the gap in the Delaware Water Gap. First stopping at the scenic overlook off of I-80 West in Columbia, NJ, then proceeding to the Dunnfield Creek parking lot for Worthington State Forest which is actually just over the Knowlton Township line in Hardwick Township. On the NJ side the ‘gap’ features Mount Tammany. Trails which are part of the Apalachain Trail system will take the adventuresome to the summit.

"Billy Yank" Replica Civil War Memorial, Hackettstown, NJ

Originally built closeby, "Billy Yank" -- not a particularly unique name for a Civil War Memorial Statute, was placed on Main Street at a cost of 30,000 pennies slowly collected by area school children. The statue stood unmolested for decades until eminent domain compelled the removal of the original statue. Instead of being moved, the statue was taken down and apparently sold for scrap.

Placed in 2001, this replica recreation pays tribute to the rank and file Union soldier colloquially referred to as "Billy Yank"

Inn at Millrace Pond, Hope, NJ (Moravian Grist Mill)

The Inn at Millrace Pond. Hope, NJ is known for having been settled by Moravians who settled in the area in the 18th century. The Moravian Grist Mill was built on the site of what is now the inn using the power from the nearby creek to turn the stone. The pictures above are of the inn itself and some of the surrounding area.
